On World Health Day, Tampa Scientologists Promote Drug-Free Living

Tampa Bay, Florida (PRWEB) May 06, 2013

Members of the Churches of Scientology in the Tampa Bay area marked World Health Day April 7 by taking action against drug abusea health issue that has become an epidemic.

On March 28, Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tweeted: Drug poisoning deaths from opioid analgesics have more than quadrupled since 1999, now 43% of drug poisoning deaths.

The news in Florida is a bit more hopeful. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced in March that drug-related deaths dropped 5 percent in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period the year before.

But this still means that 4,126 Floridians died of drug-related causes4,126 too many, according to the Tampa Bay Scientologists who took to the streets on World Health Day and distributed more than 3,000 copies of The Truth About Drugs booklet at Clearwater Beach and in Tarpon Springs and Tampa.

The Truth About Drugs booklet provides essential information on how drugs work and how they affect the body and mind, why people take them, and the effects of the most commonly abused substances. Without scare tactics, the booklet provides information that empowers young people to make their own decisions to live drug-free.

The Church of Scientology has published the brochure Scientology: How We Help The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. To learn more or to read a copy of the brochure, visit http://www.Scientology.org/antidrug.

Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, The planet has hit a barrier which

prevents any widespread social progressdrugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.

The Church of Scientology supports the Truth About Drugs, one of the worlds largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugsfactual information on what drugs are and what they dousage rates drop commensurately.

Artist Marjolein Bastin to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) May 10, 2013

For years, her delicate, detailed illustrations of natures beauty have helped millions of Hallmark card-senders reach out to others with messages of caring. And later this month, world-renowned Dutch artist Marjolein Bastin will be honored for all she has done to bring people together through her art with a prestigious LOUIE Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Greeting Card Association (GCA).

The GCAs LOUIE Awards, named for Louis Prang, the lithographer credited with the birth of the Christmas card-sending tradition in the United States, has since 1988 recognized outstanding cards, invitations and announcements marketed in the United States during the previous year. But acknowledging career-long achievement is a first for the trade association, according to GCA President Susan January, vice president of Colorado-based greeting card company Leanin Tree.

For 25 years the LOUIEs have been our way to recognize and applaud the extraordinary talent in the greeting card and social stationery industry, January says. With the new Lifetime Achievement Award, we are able to step back and honor individuals who have contributed creativity, artistry and expertise to the business we love not just during the past year, but over the course of a career.

Beloved by fans across the world, Bastin says she is honored by the award and is thrilled that her paintings help people connect. Through my partnership with Hallmark, I am able to share all the things I love so much with people all over the world, she says. To know that what I see and experience and express through my paintings helps people build relationships and connect with loved ones is truly a privilege.

We are gratified to have a lasting relationship with Marjolein and believe she deserves this special honor from the Greeting Card Association, adds Hallmark President and CEO Donald J. Hall, Jr. Marjolein has delighted our consumers for more than 20 years. Through her art and words, she continues to provide a simple reminder to pause and enjoy the natural world around us.

Bastin and St. Louis-based artist Mary Engelbreit will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the GCAs Silver Anniversary LOUIE Awards gala on May 19 in New York City.

Bastins prodigious talent was evident even in early childhood. As soon as she was able to hold a pencil and paint brush, Bastin began capturing the beauty of nature in her sketches and paintings. She continued to develop her talent, ultimately attending the Academy of Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Shortly after completing her studies there, her work came to be publicly recognized when she was asked to illustrate an ongoing feature for the popular Dutch womens weekly, Libelle. A Hallmark designer discovered Bastins artwork while on a trip to Holland in the early 1990s, initiating a relationship that has spanned more than two decades. She routinely hears from consumers enchanted by her cards, stationery and other items, which are among Hallmarks best-selling offerings.

This year, Hallmark introduced an all-new Natures Sketchbook by Marjolein Bastin card line. It includes 117 cards featuring vibrant florals, landscapes, birds and butterflies. Designed envelopes complement the cards, which are sold exclusively in Hallmark Gold Crown stores.

Internationally, she also is known for characters Vera the Mouse and the stories she develops through the world Vera inhabits with her puppy Saar, Mr. Mole the neighbor and other charming woodland creatures.

Rome, Italy (PRWEB) May 03, 2013

With all the pomp and ceremony of an ancient Roman circus, the Rome Marathon began, heralded by Roman Legions in full regalia. And the route that begins and ends at the Coliseum and passes through Piazza di Spagna, by the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Saint Peter’s and Piazza Venezia, was filled with runners while thousands lined the streets to cheer them on.

A team of volunteers from the Church of Scientology of Rome joined in the spirit of the day, offering athletes and wellwishers a route they can follow year-round. This is a route laid out by the choices we all make every daychoices made simple and clear by The Way to Happiness, a nonreligious moral code based entirely on common sense.

Whether they know it or not, most marathoners are already quite familiar with precepts of the The Way to Happiness. If not, they would never succeed in completing a 26.2 mile/42.195 km race. They must already be taking care of themselves and being temperate. To train for such a race they must be industrious and competent. And despite the competition, most long-distance runners are known for their sportsmanship. These traits are all covered in the precepts of The Way to Happiness.

Entirely nonreligious, The Way to Happiness, written by author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, is both unique and powerful. Immensely popular since its first publication in 1981, more than 100 million copies have since been distributed in 205 countries and territories, providing a moral compass for anyone to live by.

The Church of Scientology and its members are proud to share the tools for happier living contained in The Way to Happiness with all who also have the goal of a better world. For more information, visit http://www.Scientology.org/thewaytohappiness.

Global Produce Sales Tracks Over 11,000 Plastic Bins with Durable Premium Nameplates from The Kennedy Group

Booklet

Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) April 19, 2013

The Kennedy Group, a leading provider of labeling, packaging, and identification solutions, provided Global Produce Sales, Inc., based in Lake Wales, Florida, with a nameplate identification solution to track over 11,000 returnable plastic bins the produce company uses to ship watermelons.

The large, collapsible HDPE bins are ideal for shipping watermelons to distribution centers. However, not all of them were being returned to Global Produce Sales and the company had no way of tracking them. To replace the missing bins, Global Produce Sales had to buy additional corrugated bins.

Acting on a recommendation from the companys returnable bin provider, Lee Wroten, vice president for Global Produce Sales, contacted Kevin Marrie, director of sales, at The Kennedy Group about identification nameplates. After reviewing and testing several samples provided by The Kennedy Group, Wroten selected a customized version of Kennedys Durable Premium Nameplates for his bins.

Working with The Kennedy Group, we chose a customized nameplate with barcodes that ensure accurate tracking and a very strong adhesive for durability, Mr. Wroten explained.

Because the bins are used for fresh produce, they are washed and sanitized before each shipment. Mr. Wroten added, The nameplates have to withstand pressure washing and chemical sanitization. Bins are often stored outside, so the nameplates have to be UV-resistant as well.

Effectively tracking their returnable bins enables Global Produce Sales to identify, locate, and retrieve them decreasing bin turn around time. The more turns each bin makes, the quicker the return on investment. And, eliminating bin shortages reduces additional costs for corrugated replacements.

Durable Premium Nameplates available in customized sizes, colors and graphics can be printed with barcode, sequential number, and/or human readable identification. Nameplates are also available with embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The accuracy and efficiency of data collection allows Global Produce Sales to track how long bins are out and how many turns each bin makes in a year, as well as measure bin attrition rate.

In use since November 2011, there has not been a single nameplate failure. A poly overlay topcoat protects nameplates against weather, high temperature, abrasion and chemical exposure.

Durability was paramount to Mr. Wroten, Kevin Marrie said. Produce bins get washed frequently, are stored outside and exposed to UV. They are sometimes refrigerated or frozen, and shipped in trucks with high temperatures and humidity. They face multiple harsh environments.

Durable Premium Nameplates, with 14-mil construction, are flexible enough to adhere to rigid surfaces, but thick enough to withstand the harshest conditions. They are ideal for produce applications, and often used on bins for shipping watermelons, onions, sweet potatoes, oranges and peaches.

The Kennedy Groups Durable Premium Nameplates come on ergonomic rolls that are easy to handle and store. Easily applied to a variety of bins and containers, the nameplates strong adhesive eliminates the costs and problems associated with hot stamping and bolted nameplates.
